LANDSCAPES

Amongst my favorite subjects, landscapes are certainly at the top of the list. Mother nature has so much to offer, whether it is in the warm and humid Florida climat, in the cold snowy Canada winter or during the colorful autumnal season.

Anses Spider

Anses Spider

Quebec, July 2021

Sunrises in summer in this part of the world starts very early, and probably put the expectation bar higher for us photographers. This morning was no exception, but I was grateful to see how the sky was developing and forming a colorfull and textured backdrop. The Anses bay, in Bic National Park, was as low tide, which was perfect for this photograph, revealing the furrows reflecting the receding water. The image that I had originally planned was not this one, but when I saw these patterns in the sand, I knew I had to change my mind.

Corfu Islands Wreck

Corfu Islands Wreck

Quebec, September 2021

We are in December 1963, the Corfu Islands ship leaves Wismar in Germany to reach Montreal, with 27 greek sailors aboard, but while navigating across the St Lawrence golf, it got into a severe storm between Magdalen Islands and Anticosti Island. The captain tries to accelerate to seek refuge and makes a wrong decision which deprives the ship of its engines and by a freezing cold night, the motionless, energy-less structure drifts and fails on Magdalen Islands shores. Fortunately the crew can be rescued by the Islands inhabitants, and almost 60 years later, the remains of the wreck are still there.

While it is an attraction and a subject matter for photographers, this is still a concern on an environmental point of view, since fuel oil continues to leak from the ship tanks underneath.

Thunder

Thunder

Quebec, August 2019

Gone almost as fast as arrived, summer thunderstorms are also pretty intense. While the clouds rapidly cleared, the rain was still falling over the water of Forbes Lake, in Mont-Tremblant National Park, letting the sunset light create this nearly surreal ambiance. In these situations, you got to act promptly, as a few seconds apart, the scenery can change drastically.

Gabet Lake

Gabet Lake

Mauricie, Quebec, July 2018

Often, after the rain, if the clouds clear, this is when the best light happens. This evening was one of these moments, which gave us the pleasure to watch this peaceful and colorful sunset over lake Gabet, in the Mauricie National Park

Emptiness

Emptiness

Quebec, September 2018

What a quiet morning under these dramatic clouds in Shawinigan Bay. The canoes moved very slightly, under the reminiscence of the currents of the Saint Maurice River, creating a feeling of emptiness.

Green and Yellow Meli Melo

Green and Yellow Meli Melo

Quebec, October 2017

Autumn is over by now, as we enter slowly but surely in the winter, still, there are some images left. This is another shot from the Lac des Femmes in Mont-Tremblant National Park, a beautiful and peaceful lake.

Turret Arche's Spider

Turret Arche's Spider

Utah, July 2017

Like a lot of harsh condition areas, there are a lot of dead trees here and there in the park. This one looked to me as a kinda spider, looking after the Turret arche.

Captiva-tion MkII

Captiva-tion MkII

Sanibel, Florida, July 2015

At the very south point of Captiva Island, at the junction with Sanibel Island, Florida, a summer sunset brought colors and tranquility

Ghostly Sunset

Ghostly Sunset

Bayou, Louisiana, December 2015

That was during a ride on a boat in the Bayou, just before returning to the dock, that the sunset light started to reflect in the clouds, giving a ghosty aspect to these trees

The iconic Z

The iconic Z

Everglades, Florida, February 2015

Probably the more iconic Cypress tree in the Everglades, shaped in a Z form.

One says that the Z form comes from the Indians who used to bend young dwarf cypress trees to indicate directions.

Agony

Dead tree in Dead Horse Point State Park

The golden hours light was breaking through the heavy clouds this evening, and illuminated this dead tree, landing, alone and bursted amongst the surrounding bushes, in this arid plateau

No Gator on Pine Glade Lake

No Gator on Pine Glade Lake

Florida, February 2019

This is one of my favorite place in the south east of the Everglades, this little lake, Pine Glades Lake. Most of the time, there is a permanent resident in these little lakes, but this day, there was no gator is sight, although I stayed around for a 2 solid hours. The last time I was taking picture on this very same lake, this guy was turning around, almost as if he was intrigued by what I was doing. Nonetheless, this evening was illuminated by a nice sunset through the remaining clouds, after a stormy afternoon.

Grand Teton Range

Grand Teton Range

Wyoming, July 2017

One of the most emblematic mountain range in the USA, within the Grand Teton National Park. This evening, the sunset was a bit shy, but the clouds participated to the mood of the image, and I have been welcomed by this magenta sky, through these stormy clouds.

Teacup Rock

Teacup Rock

PEI, July 2019

Prince Edward Island is a peculiar province in Canada, not only because this is an island, but also because of its landscape and coastal area shapes and colors. The soil has a characteristic deep red color, which in summer, contrasts very much with the vibrant green lands. One of the icons of the island is the Thunder Cove beach on the north-west coast, were singular rock formations stand. The Teacup Rock is one of them, possibly the most known of them all.

After the falls

After the falls

Niagara Falls, Canada, March 2017

The Niagara River, after the three falls of the same name, continues its flow, down to Ontario Lake, a few kilometers away. The sunset lights combined with the falls water spray, and these ice-covered bushes, created this almost ethereal ambiance

Lachine's Z-Rock

Lachine's Z-Rock

Lachine, Quebec, January 2017

By a sunny but a -10°C day, along the Saint Laurent frozen river, I found this rock Z shape, that is likely a former boat dock, eaten away by the weather.

Greenery On Rock

Greenery On Rock

Quebec, July 2019

Bic National Parc, located in the Bas Saint Laurent, in the St-Lawrence estuary, is a really beautiful mix between small hills and a coastal marine environment. This almost peninsula is surrounded by rocks, their feet in the river, area rich for algae and various sea plants, along the shore. This section of vibrant green algae, surrounded by these rocks, revealing a breach towards the salted water of the estuary, caught my attention.

La Petite Rhue Valley

La Petite Rhue Valley

France, July 2018

Just after the sunrise, heading down the Puy Mary summit trail, the sun started to poor through the La Petite Rhue valley, on the north mountainside. The road swirls up to the Pas de Peyrol pass

Rolland Breach's Path at dawn

Rolland Breach's Path at dawn

France, July 2018

The Puy Mary is one, if not the, most popular and visited summit in the Cantal’s Mounts, the Massif Central, France. This morning, after a stormy night, I had it all for myself. The sun rises behind the clouds which started to clear. This ridge leads to Rolland Breach also very well known, although not to confound to the breach of the same name (minus one l) in the Pyrenees.

Opening on South Pointe

Opening on South Pointe

South Beach, Florida, February 2016

I was out for a sunrise on Miami Beach South Pointe, but the weather was not at the rendez-vous, the east was totally cloudy. I was about to give up, when turning 180 degrees, I saw this opening in the clouds and the glow of the sun was drilling from the west.

Alpine Meadow

Alpine Meadow

Quebec, February 2020

Saguenay region is renown for the abondance of snow during the winter as much as its gorgeous landscapes. Just right after a pretty solid snow storm, the conditions were even better with fresh generous layer of powder snow. Snowshoes hikes are then a perfect way to discover delicious viewpoints.
